Microneedling
Aesthetic Dermatology
Microneedling is an advanced nonsurgical cosmetic procedure. By triggering the body’s wound healing response, it is effective in treating a wide variety of skin concerns including acne scarring, large pores, and wrinkles. It can also be used for regulating skin pigmentation and treating sun damage.
What can I expect during treatments?
We advise all clients to avoid using any products or make-up on the skin on the day of treatment. However, if you are unable to do this, please arrive early to allow ample time for our practitioners to cleanse the skin and check for any sun exposure damage or irritation. The microneedling device is then passed over the area to be treated, inserting tiny needles into the skin. This leaves minute puncture wounds stimulating the body to repair the skin cells in that area and encouraging the production of collagen and elastin. This causes the areas of the skin to plump, thereby causing a reduction in wrinkles, scarring and sun damage. It has also proven effective for the repair of stretchmarks, especially when combined with radiofrequency.
Benefits of Microneedling
Microneedling is most commonly used to treat the following skin conditions:
Dull skin: Rejuvenate tired and dull skin and combat the initial signs of ageing.
Wrinkles: Fine lines and wrinkles on the face can be visibly reduced, as microneedling triggers collagen production.
Scarring: Scars from acne and Chicken Pox can be improved and an uneven texture can be smoothed out with microneedling.
Pigmentation: Can help to fade dark patches such as pigmentation due to sun damage or ageing.
Microneedling is a great treatment for you if you have darker skin because it doesn’t involve peels or lasers, which can cause pigmentation issues.
Your microneedling consultation: what to expect
Your microneedling consultation will be with a senior practitioner for rejuvenation or with a nurse or doctor for acne scarring and more advanced microneedling. The practitioner will assess your condition and determine the most appropriate form of treatment. During your consultation they will be able to answer any questions you may have about your skin condition and give you personalised advice.
